Yes, diet soda DOES make you fat…

We all know by now that soda (aka “pop” in some areas) is one of the most evil things you can put in your body… the nasty chemicals, the gut-fattening high fructose corn syrup, and a myriad of health problems caused by this carbonated cocktail worshipped by those that don’t care about their health or body.

Since you’re one of my readers, I know that you actually do care about your health and the appearance of your body.

Surprisingly, many people falsely believe that “diet” soda is in some way a good thing for losing body fat. In fact, I hear people all the time proudly state that they “eat so healthy and only drink diet soda”.

So let’s set the record straight…

There is NOTHING even remotely healthy about drinking diet soda. In fact, I’ve even seen several studies that showed dedicated diet soda drinkers got even FATTER than their regular soda drinking counterparts.

Here’s some findings from an 8-year University of Texas study that I had read…

An excerpt from the study author:

“What didn’t surprise us was that total soft drink use was linked to overweight and obesity,” Fowler tells WebMD. “What was surprising was when we looked at people only drinking diet soft drinks, their risk of obesity was even higher.”

“There was a 41 percent increase in risk of being overweight for every can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumes each day,” Fowler says.

Ok, as if we didn’t already know how bad regular soda was for us, and now they’re showing us studies that diet soda makes us even fatter than the already bad stuff!

There’s a lot of complicating factors as to why this occurs…

One reason is that the artificial sweeteners in diet sodas create a negative hormonal response in the body that increases fat storing hormone production and increases cravings for more sweets and refined carbohydrates in the time period after consuming the diet drink.

I’ve been reading more studies lately on the effects of artificial sweeteners and one thing that appears clear is that it’s not a good idea to try to “fool” your body. Essentially you “fool” your body by drinking something very sweet (sweetened with artificial sweeteners), but you don’t actually ingest the sugar calories your body expects. Your body has a hard time knowing how to deal with that.

With artificial sweeteners, your taste buds “sense” that you ingested something very sweet, and even though you might not have ingested sugar, your body follows with an insulin response. As you know, higher insulin levels can increase cravings as well as triggering your body to deposit body fat. This is not to say it’s any better to drink a sugar-sweetened soda which has it’s own host of problems.

Another reason for weight gain from drinking diet drinks is that people may subconsciously think that because they are drinking a diet soda, that gives them more leeway to eat more of everything else, hence consuming more calories overall.

The cause for weight gain from diet drinks may actually be some combination of both of those explanations above.

I’ve said this all along, but the bottom line is that if you’re serious about your health and body, soda of any kind (and artificial sweeteners in anything for that matter!) should be avoided at all times, except for very rare occasions when you can’t avoid them.

So what is a good alternative to diet sodas?

The best alternatives are good old water with lemon or unsweetened iced teas… you have plenty of options with teas – green, white, black, oolong, red… be creative in making your iced teas and you’ll enjoy it more. Plus you’ll get a more diverse array of antioxidants.

I just add a little of the natural non-caloric sweetener stevia to my iced teas and I love them. Please share this page with your friends and family to help them kick the diet soda habit.

High intensity workouts are not for the faint of heart. If you’re serious about burning calories and want to see some serious results right away, using high intensity workouts can be one fast shortcut to your destination.

Using high intensity workouts requires concentration and determination. Your muscles, lungs and heart are going to be screaming for you to stop, but you need to keep going anyway.

Here’s how to use high intensity workouts to blast some calories off your body in a single exercise session.

==> Start with Stretching and Warm-Up

A lot of people consider stretching and warming up optional. If you plan on doing high intensity workouts, however, these two steps cannot be optional at all.

The risk of injury without stretching and warming up are quite high. Also, you won’t be able to work out as hard if you’re not properly warmed up beforehand.

Start by stretching your entire body for 3-5 minutes. Then get on the treadmill or stationary bike and exercise at a moderate pace for 7 minutes.

This will get your blood pumping and your body ready for your high intensity workout.

==> Go at 90% of Maximum Heart Rate

High intensity workouts typically involve going at about 90% of your maximum heart rate. Use the heart rate monitor on your gym’s workout machines or your own heart rate monitor to gauge how hard you’re working out.

How long should you go for? The goal is to push your body until your body is so tired that it’ll need the entire rest of the day to recover from the workout.

This gets your body into a state called EPOC or “Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption.” In other words, you’ll be burning weight for the entire rest of the day.

In the beginning, your ability to push yourself hard might not be that high. However, as you get more practice with high intensity training, you’ll be able to go longer and longer periods of time at this 90% heart rate.

==> A Few Exercises You Can Try

What kinds of exercises are well suited for high intensity training?

Running and cycling are two of the most popular choices. These two choices are easy to perform and easily get your heart rate up. A lot of people also find them to be the most enjoyable exercise for them.

On the other hand, you’ve got more fringe exercises that also work quite well.

Boxers find that jump ropes work great for high intensity training. You can push yourself very far using just a single jump rope.

Another possibility is rowing. Rowing equipment is underused in most gyms, but it really works out your cardiovascular system along with many major muscle groups.

Again, high intensity workouts aren’t for everyone. They get results and they get results fast, but you need some serious determination to even attempt these kinds of workouts.

A surprising way that a few specific vegetables can actually stimulate the burning of abdominal fat…

article by Mike Geary, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Nutrition Specialist

I bet you didn’t know that there is a specific class of vegetables that contain very unique phytonutrients that actually help to fight against stubborn belly fat.

Let me explain what these unique vegetables are and why they help to burn stomach fat…

Chemicals that force your body to hold onto belly fat

Something you may have never heard about is that certain chemicals in our food supply and our environment, such as pesticides, herbicides, and certain petrochemicals from air and water pollution, household cleaners, plastics, cosmetics, etc can react with your hormones and make your body store excess abdominal fat.

These harmful chemicals are known as xenoestrogens.

Xenoestrogens are chemicals that you are exposed to (and are hard to avoid in the modern world) that have an estrogenic effect in your body. Excess exposure to these can cause hormone balance disruptions for both men and women. So if you thought this article was just for the guys, these chemicals can wreak havoc in the body for both guys and gals.

These estrogenic chemicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis can stimulate your body to store belly fat, along with many other problems (including cancer risks in the long term).

So here’s where this specific class of vegetables comes in handy…

One of those cool tricks that I teach my clients that hire me for nutritional counseling is the use of cruciferous vegetables to help fight against stomach fat.

Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, bok choy, cabbage, etc. contain very specific and unique phytonutrients such as indole-3-carbinol (I3C) that help to fight against these estrogenic compounds…

And by fighting against these belly fat stimulating estrogenic chemicals, this is just 1 more step in helping you to win the battle against abdominal fat!

So there you go… just another excuse to do what mom always told you and eat more broccoli and cauliflower!

I’ve really learned to like brussells sprouts in the last year too… Melt a little grass-fed cheese on them and some garlic and they’re great!

…and 9 Tips to Minimize Your Exposure to these Harmful Chemicals

by Mike Geary – Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Nutrition Specialist

You may have started hearing in the news about some of the hidden chemicals that might be lurking in your canned foods and bottled water and other drinks. Some of them are known as xenoestrogens, which have the potential to cause serious health problems over time, as well as increase abdominal fat from the estrogenic effect.

Today, I want to share with you some important details about one of the MOST problematic chemicals that you’re being exposed to specifically from canned foods and bottled drinks, etc…

It’s called Bisphenol A (BPA).

BPA can be found as a component of some types of plastic bottles, and also in the lining inside of canned foods.

Since BPA is a known “xenoestrogen”, it’s been linked in animal studies (at surprisingly small doses) to all sorts of various health issues such as cancer, metabolic disorders, heart disease, diabetes, and fertility problems and birth defects or miscarriages… and of course, any xenoestrogens in large enough amounts can trigger your body to hold onto abdominal fat (aka – stubborn belly fat).

The major offenders to look for are polycarbonate bottles (some plastics with the #7 symbol on the bottom are polycarbonate, but not all) and also canned foods, since the lining of most canned foods contains BPA, which can leach into food. The longer that a can of food sits on a shelf and the higher the temperature, the more BPA can leach into your food. The same can be said for polycarbonate bottles that contain food or drinks.

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), BPA was detected in the bodies of 95% of Americans in one CDC study (this is a worldwide issue though, not just limited to the US). This is nothing to shrug off either… look at this scary finding…

The Environmental Working Group reports, “analysis of our tests reveals that for one of every five cans tested, and for one-third of all vegetables and pastas (ravioli and noodles with tomato sauce), a single serving would expose a pregnant woman to BPA at levels that fall within a factor of 5 of doses linked to birth defects — permanent damage of developing male reproductive organs“.

If that didn’t get your attention, how about this…

The EWG also reports evidence of… “An investigation demonstrating that low doses of BPA spur both the formation and growth of fat cells, the two factors that drive obesity in humans (Masumo et al. 2002).“

This is not surprising, since as I mentioned at the beginning of this article, BPA is a known xenoestrogen, and any xenoestrogens can contribute to what’s been referred to as “stubborn abdominal fat” as well as cancer and other health problems.

It’s also important to note that any canned tomato products (canned ravioli, pastas, canned tomato pastes, tomato sauces, etc) are some of the biggest offenders with the highest BPA concentrations due to the acidic nature of tomatoes, which leaches more of the BPA.

So what steps can you take to minimize your exposure to BPA and it’s negative effects on bodyfat and other health risks?

1. Try to always avoid canned foods as much as possible and choose frozen or fresh foods instead. Buy the ingredients yourself and prepare the meal the old fashioned way instead of resorting to canned foods. Also, a better alternative to canned foods is products in glass containers.

2. If you do resort to using canned foods instead of fresh foods, try to find labels that say that the cans are free of BPA.

3. If you need tomato products, always avoid canned varieties and search for tomato sauces, pastes, etc in glass bottles instead (unless the can specifically states that it is BPA-free). Or just make your own tomato dishes from scratch with fresh tomatoes.

4. If you use plastic wrap, plastic ziplock bags, plastic containers for food storage, etc, try to investigate on the label if the product is BPA-free or not. Some brands packaging will label if their products are BPA-free.

5. If you for some reason choose to use a microwave with your food (which by the way, microwaved food is thought to have negative health effects), then by all means, do not microwave the food in plastic containers as it can increase the leaching of chemicals including BPA.

6. If you drink bottled water, or water from reusable plastic bottles, make sure that it is not a polycarbonate bottle, or make sure that the label says BPA-free. Plastic that shows #7 on the bottom will sometimes contain BPA, but not always. If a bottle shows “PC” on the bottom, it is made from polycarbonate, so it will contain BPA. In addition, sometimes aluminum bottles will contain a lining that has BPA, so avoid these.

7. Avoid soda cans, as the EWG states analysis showed that 42% of soda cans contained BPA. Of course, if you care about your health and your body, I’m sure you never drink soda anyway — it’s pure evil for your body… and yes, that includes unhealthy diet soda too, with it’s dangerous artificial sweeteners.

8. Never use plastic cups for hot liquids such as hot tea or coffee, as this can accelerate leaching of BPA and other chemicals, depending on the type of plastic.

9. As much as you can try to avoid BPA and other xenoestrogens, you will most likely still be exposed to some levels of xenoestrogens from various chemicals in your foods (from pesticide/herbicide residues, packaging chemicals, etc), chemicals in your water supply, chemicals from cosmetics, lotions, etc.

However, you can help to protect yourself and counteract these harmful xenoestrogen chemicals in your body with certain powerful phytonutrients in foods like onions, garlic, chamomile and green teas, and cruciferious vegetables. Specific veggies can help you to fight abdominal fat by counteracting xenoestrogens.

If you stick to most of these guidelines, you can help to protect yourself and your family from the health dangers of bisphenol-A (BPA). And you can also help protect yourself against the issue of “stubborn abdominal fat” that can be caused by the xenoestrogen effect of BPA exposure too… which I’m sure you’d rather avoid!

Please share this article with your friends and family to help them protect their health from BPA exposure.

Increase the “youth hormone”, burn body fat faster, and build more lean muscle with these tips

by Mike Geary, Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer

I’m sure you know that two of the MOST important hormones for both burning body fat and also building lean muscle are growth hormone (GH) and testosterone (T)… and there are certain “tricks” that you can use during exercise to maximize production in your body.

And keep in mind that GH is also called the “youth hormone”, so there are benefits besides just fat loss and lean muscle development.

Now let me clarify, this topic might seem to be more relevant to men (especially when it comes to Testosterone), but it’s also important to the ladies for getting maximum results from training…

For the ladies reading this…don’t worry about exercise-induced small increases in these hormones…the amount of T in the female body is so small compared to men that minor increases won’t lead to any “masculinization” (I might have just made that word up)… instead it just helps get a leaner and more shapely body.

Ok, this topic could be long-winded, but I’m going to give just a couple really quick tips today for maximizing Growth Hormone and Testosterone response from exercise…

From a lot of the research I’ve done, there seems to be a couple distinct types of training that can either help increase Testosterone or help increase Growth Hormone, and they are totally different training methods.

In order to reduce your body fat as much as possible, as well as build lean muscle the easiest, you need to try to maximize BOTH!

Here’s how…

First, for exercise-induced Testosterone increases…

From a lot of the various research I’ve read, one of the best methods to increase T is to do at least some portion of your training in very low rep ranges and very heavy weight.

This means training in the 2-5 rep range, with such heavy weights that you can’t physically do more reps than that range. Also, this only works with the biggest multi-joint exercises such as barbell squats, deadlifts, bench press and weighted pullups. No silly side lateral raises or tricep extensions when you’re trying to get a Testosterone response!

An example of this type of structure would be 5 sets of 3 reps on the barbell deadlift, squat, or bench. Alternating sets of deadlifts and bench press (or squats alternated with weighted pullups) separated by at least 2 minutes of rest between sets works well to accomplish this super heavy lifting style and subsequent T increase.

It’s basically the aspect of challenging your body with super heavy weights and low rep ranges, with 2-3 minutes rest between sets that helps to maximize T production.

From what I’ve observed at most gyms, almost NOBODY trains in this rep range (most people seem to always train in the 8-12 or higher rep ranges), so there are a TON of people that could see Testosterone improvements by incorporating this into their training at least once or twice a week.

Keep in mind that this super heavy style of training is ONLY for advanced trainees that have years of training experience with weights.

Now, let’s talk about exercise induced Growth Hormone increases…

From the research I’ve read on this hormone, it appears that more explosive styles of training, and also higher rep training with shorter rest periods helps to increase GH response.

Wind sprints are one of the top exercises for inducing a GH increase. I like to do these as 60 to 100 yard all-out sprints across a local soccer field or football field. Generally, I’ll do about 8-12 total sprints with about 60 seconds rest time in between each one for a good 20 minute workout. If you haven’t done sprints in a long time or are out of shape, it’s a good idea to not go to “all-out” intensity for the first couple weeks or you’ll risk injury. Also, just doing 3-4 sprints for the first couple of sprint workouts is a good idea to reduce injury risk.

Also, hill sprints are an exceptional exercise for GH response. I like to sprint as fast and as hard as possible up a 30 yard hill and then walk down… and then keep repeating until I’ve done at least 10-20 hill sprints. Sometimes I’ll mix in pushups in between hill sprints to maximize the full body effect.

As for weight training, from the research I’ve read, GH increase comes best from higher rep ranges with short rest periods between sets. This means that supersets in the 8-15 rep range per exercise with no rest between might work well. The weight still needs to be heavy enough to challenge your muscles close to failure at those rep ranges.

Another type of training that seems to increase GH is more “explosive” types of exercises such as squat jumps, lunge jumps, or something like barbell power cleans or barbell clean and press. Any exercise that works large muscle groups explosively or almost the entire body at once in an explosive fashion seems to stimulate GH (hence why I chose barbell clean and press as one of the best).

I also think double kettlebell snatches are one of the most intense exercises ever invented and probably have a huge effect on growth hormone due to their explosive and intense nature.

So with all of this said, it’s important to keep in mind that for the best results with maximizing both T and GH, you want to incorporate BOTH of these styles of training.

One way to do this is to have 1 or 2 workouts per week that are designated low-rep “strength” days where you work those big multi joint lifts in low rep ranges. And then on another 1-2 days per week you work on the explosive exercises, higher rep ranges and short rest periods, and/or the wind sprints or hill sprints.

And lastly, always remember to consciously think in your mind about how the exercises that you’re doing are actually increasing your fat burning and muscle building hormones, making you feel younger, etc, etc… I’ve talked in several other articles about actual PROOF of how using the power of conscious thought in your mind can help bring about those changes in your body (aka placebo effect).

I hope you enjoyed this article… I really think if you incorporate these tips into your workout schedule, you can drastically improve your hormonal response to exercise and therefore see faster fat burning and muscle building effects!

First off, I wanted to give a huge congratulations to all of the amazing Olympians and their super human feats! It’s been so much fun watching this year’s Summer Olympics.

I’m also yet again amazed at the accomplishments of Usain Bolt, the “worlds fastest man” with his world record breaking 100-meter sprint. How cool is that to be able to say that you are the world’s fastest human being…Just crazy!

It’s been interesting to observe the physiques of the different athletes also. Which physique do you think is best? In my opinion, at least for the men, the sprinters and the gymnasts have the best overall physiques, with impressive strength, muscularity, and leanness, and an overall healthy look.

I’ve talked about this in the past, but it’s interesting to observe the physiques of the 100-meter sprinters vs the physiques of the long distance runners. The sprinters are just so powerful looking, yet lean, ripped, and healthy. They’re muscular, but not too muscular like some oversized bodybuilders frequently look.

Personally, I know I’d rather look like a sprinter than a bodybuilder. And I’d definitely rather look like a sprinter than a marathoner! By the way, have you seen the ripped six-pack that Usain Bolt has… yes, from sprinting!

Compare a sprinters physique with a long distance runners physique or a long distance bicyclist’s physique and pretty much every man I know would rather look like the sprinter and not the long distance runner or biker.

I know I’ve said it a thousand times before, but there’s no arguing that sprinting builds an awesome body! It’s not surprising since sprinting is one of the best exercises for inducing growth hormone and testosterone release…both important hormones for being strong, lean, and ripped.

Considering the impressive physiques of the gymnasts too, imagine the physique that a combination of sprinting and gymnastics would create. But the cool thing is that you can create this type of physique yourself too if you just mix in sprinting, bodyweight exercises, and weight training all into your routine on a regular basis.

So we’ve established that sprinting will build a much more impressive, stronger physique than long distance running, but what about health benefits?

Well, this might surprise you, but sprinting is MUCH better for your health too. Long distance running and other long duration cardio increases free radicals in your body and accelerates aging.

Sprinting is one of those exercises that actually helps you stay youthful… Not only because it builds lean muscle, and therefore keeps your metabolism revving high 24/7, but also because of the growth hormone (also called the “youth hormone”) releasing benefits of sprinting!

Another aspect we didn’t mention yet where sprinting kicks the crap out of long distance running is for the benefits for your heart. Long distance running typically only trains a very narrow heart rate range, which doesn’t actually do much to improve the strength of your heart.

On the other hand, sprinting mixed with rest intervals takes your heart rate range all the way from resting heart rate up to near maxed out levels, and trains your heart to recover fast, while training it through a very wide heart rate range, which is quite different from long distance running. I know when I do 50-100 meter wind sprints, my heart rate will shoot up to 160 bpm, while my resting heart rate is in the low 50′s! Scientists are becoming more aware recently that “heart rate recovery” is one of the most important aspects to look at when it comes to heart health.

Now with all of that said, is sprinting for everyone?

Definitely not! Let’s face it… some people are just too far out of shape to even try sprinting… they would likely pull a muscle, injure a tendon or ligament, or something else. But almost anybody can eventually work up to sprints… heck, just watch the TV show, “The Biggest Loser”, and even some of the contestants that start out at 400 lbs end up being able to do full sprints by the final weeks of the show.

Even if you can’t do full out sprints right now, you can still use the concept of interval training and widely varying your heart rate throughout a workout instead of working at the same heart rate the whole workout. Over time, you can experiment with higher levels of intensity that are approaching more of a full on sprint.

When I do wind sprints, I sprint so hard that it’s actually impossible to do any more than 10-15 seconds during each sprint. And I keep most sprints somewhere between 50-100 meters each in order to maximize intensity and therefore maximize GH release.

You can read below about the exact sprint routine I’ve used on and off for the last few months that really helped me to lean out whenever I needed to drop fat. I also talk about what I did nutritionally before and after these sprint workouts to max out the fat loss effects:

A sprint routine that will get you into single digit bodyfat:

My new morning ritual to get ripped abs and single-digit body fat

Today I wanted to share with you a few fitness and nutrition techniques I’ve been using myself lately, and my new “morning ritual” which has been getting killer results!

In fact, just doing this morning ritual for the last 7 mornings in a row, I can already see that my lower abs are getting more defined by the day (indicating that this is lowering my body fat % a bit more).

This involves both exercise AND nutrition tricks, so read this whole post, even if you can’t do the exact same type of exercise.

Here’s the method I’ve been using that is getting crazy results…

We just started getting really warm spring weather here in the Rockies, so the last 7 mornings in a row, I’ve been riding my bike about 10 minutes over to the local soccer field and then do about 20 minutes or so of all-out wind sprints (50-100 yard wind sprints with full out intensity), and then I do the 10 minute bike ride back home. When I get home, I do about 5 minutes of floor abs exercises to finish off.

All in all, it’s only a 45-minute morning workout, but makes me feel amazing for the day! And I do this morning workout in a “semi-fasted” state, which I’ll explain below.

Even if you can’t do wind sprints, keep in mind that you can still do something similar that is a higher intensity for you personally (perhaps hill walking instead of wind sprints, for example).

By the way, outdoor sprints are where the action is… sprints on a treadmill don’t have the same effect as there’s more force production involved in accelerating a sprint outdoors compared to on a treadmill. Plus, the max speed on a treadmill is not high enough usually for an “all-out” sprint. In my mind, it’s a world of difference. Personally I never step foot on a treadmill.

How wind sprints raise your fat burning hormones:

One of the reasons that wind sprints are so effective at chiseling your body and reducing body fat to “ripped” levels (have you ever seen the bodies of some competitive sprinters? yes, ripped!) is that sprints are one of the specific exercises that are known to have a great effect on increasing Growth Hormone (GH) naturally in your body…

…and we all know that GH production in your body is one of the key secrets to getting lean, strong, and also staying youthful!

For the wind sprints, what I’ve been doing is increasing distance on each sprint from 50 meters to 60 meters, 70, 80, 90, and finally 100 meters. Then I repeat the cycle. Usually just 2 cycles of this is enough to get me fully whooped (about 12 all-out sprints)! But as time goes on this summer, I will try to increase distance, the number of sprints, or the intensity to keep progressing.

Important note on sprints: If you’re going to try all-out sprints, make sure to ease into them for the first couple workouts if you haven’t done them in a while to minimize injury risk. You should slowly increase the intensity (70%, 80%, 90% intensity) for the first couple of workouts before doing 100% all-out sprints.

Also, try hill sprints for variety if you have a hill nearby. I like to do 30 yard uphill sprints, followed by walking back downhill and repeating. These are great variety that can be mixed in with your flat field sprints, and have great benefits for growth hormone production as well.

Now for the morning nutrition trick I’ve been using…

I’ve tried “morning empty stomach exercise” in the past, and here’s the deal… I usually don’t have the energy to do anything intense first thing in the morning on a fully empty stomach, so for these sprints, I’ve found a nice little concoction I came up with that gives me the energy to do these high intensity sprints without weighing me down, and without many calories. It’s just enough to do the trick!

At the same time, this concoction I drink has almost no carbohydrates, so should have very little effect on blood sugar, which means the sprints will be more effective at stimulating Growth Hormone release as well as triggering fat loss.

What I’ve been doing is mixing this Superfoods Cocktail (which is lightly sweetened with stevia, nothing artificial, and with only 40 calories per serving, but 76 superfoods mixed in) with unsweetened iced tea (green, white, oolong, and yerba mate mixture) first thing in the morning. I usually have a big batch of unsweetened iced tea in a gallon container in the fridge that has at least these 4 teas mixed for taste and diversity of antioxidants.

I also mix in about a half scoop (12 grams) of raw grass-fed whey protein, and I have about 2-3 grams of BCAA’s (to help minimize muscle catabolism), and a few caps of krill oil.

This entire concoction is only about 110 calories total (with only 3 grams of carbs from the Athletic Greens), so it’s just enough to give me energy to do the high intensity sprints, but not too much to weigh me down, or affect blood sugar levels (and elevating blood sugar would halt fat loss and minimize GH production during the sprints, which is why I kept carbs very low in this morning concoction).

Take note that one of the key parts of the supplements I take for this pre-workout mixture is the BCAA’s, as studies show that BCAA’s can prevent muscle catabolism during exercise on an empty stomach, and I do these sprint workouts in a semi-fasted state. Some research also indicates that BCAA’s used during fasted exercise can help reduce abdominal fat more than a placebo.

I try to get about 15-20 minutes to digest this mixture a bit (the bike ride to the soccer field takes about 10 minutes) and then I start to rock out the 20-25 minutes of all-out wind sprints. The 10 minute bike ride back home is a nice cool down, and then I hit up about 5 minutes of floor abs exercises (such as abs bicycles, mountain climbers, lying leg thrusts, etc) as a good finisher once I’m home.

This morning workout feels amazing, and I end up getting an amazing workout with plenty of energy, as opposed to the no energy feeling I have if I try to do totally “empty stomach” exercise first thing in the morning. This also makes me feel really energetic for the rest of the day too, and I’m sure boosts my metabolism!

When I come back from the sprinting, I wait about a half hour (to let the body keep burning fat for fuel) and then make my full breakfast, which lately has been my fairly low-carb healthy breakfast of 3-4 whole eggs (free range, pasture-raised eggs from a local farmers market), grass-fed bison or beef sausage, lots of veggies mixed in to the eggs (mushrooms, onions, spinach, kale, and red peppers), and a half of an avocado on the side. And I have a cup of green tea or yerba mate with about a 1/2 teaspoon of raw honey.

The fat loss results so far:

Keep in mind, I’ve only been doing this morning ritual for about 7 days so far… but even with only a week of this method, I’ve already had noticeably more definition in the lower abs doing this every morning for the last 7 days or so! I need to start building in some rest days, so I’ll probably try to do this 4-5 mornings per week from this point fwd, until I feel the need for a change and variety in the routine.

So if you’re up for a challenge and a great training and nutrition combo method, this seems to be working wonders for me so far! Let’s get ripped and ready for summer! Perhaps you can find a way to do something similar in your routine, even if you can’t do full-out wind sprints.

I hope this post has given you some good ideas to use. Have fun!

Enjoy the rest of the Olympics! And good luck with your own Olympic body!

Espresso is one of the most popular coffee drinks in the world today. The espresso coffee drink began in Milan, Italy, and has since spread as a popular drink to many other countries. An espresso is a coffee beverage that is prepared using water under pressure and usually served in a preheated demitasse cup. The espresso coffee drinks have thicker consistency than regular coffee drinks. The high pressure of water used in making espressos is very hot, but the water will not boil. If the espresso brewing process is right, the coffee-maker will find a cream floating on the top of the drink, which makes the drink so special compared with other coffee drinks.

There are many types of espresso drinks, including the latte, mocha, and con leche. There are many sides to espresso that most people don’t know, including the different drinks and how they are made. Traditionally, a master coffee maker, or Barista makes espressos. Espressos that are made properly will have a top layer of golden foam, which is known as crema. There are four factors that help trained Baristas help enhance the quality of their espressos. The four factors include the machine, the blend, the grinder, and the hand.

The Barista must consider the machine because it controls the temperature and pressure of the water as it passes through the coffee. The machine must be clean and in working order to make the best espresso. The blend is important because there are not many single-origin coffees that have all the flavors and aromas that make a good espresso, so the Barista must blend several coffees together to achieve the desired effect. A coffee grinder is used to crush the beans into small particles for brewing, but there is no ideal particle size for espressos. It is the Barista’s job to figure out how coarsely to grind the coffee in order to provide the best flavor. The hand is important because the skill of the operator is a major factor in espresso making.

Espresso has grown in popularity of many years, and it is now one of the most popular coffee drinks. The coffee drink is the main type of coffee in Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, and many countries in southern Europe, including Spain, France, and Italy. Espressos are also popular throughout Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. For Australia and New Zealand, espresso coffee drinks account for almost all of the commercial café, coffeehouse, and restaurant coffee business. The rise of coffee chains such as Starbucks in the 1990s are also a factor in the ever-rising popularity of espresso-based drinks. With the addition of more coffeehouses, the popularity of the espresso drink will only increase even more over time.

Baristas are not the only ones making espressos, and home-espresso machines are also available to consumers for home-brewing. The home machines are also a major contributor to the espresso’s rise in popularity. Espresso machines are available almost anywhere, including in department stores and coffee specialty shops. Home espresso machines are fairly user-friendly and make it simple for almost every person to master the basics of espresso making. The latte, mocha, espresso machiato, and con leche are a few of the espresso drinks available.

Lattes are a blend of espresso and “velvetized” foamed milk. Mocha can be described as a chocolate latte topped with whipped cream. Mocha drinks also have “velvetized” foam, which is put in after the Barista adds the chocolate syrup. Espresso machiato is a shot of espresso that is topped with a tablespoon of light, fluffy, foam. Con leche is a double espresso that is put in a regular style cup, with latte-style steamed milk poured on top of the drink to fill the cup. Espresso is one of the most popular coffee drinks in the world, and its popularity will only get greater as the popularity of coffeehouses expands.

Cultivating coffee beans is a long and complicated process, and it’s often complicated to yield a fruitful harvest. The coffee plant beans are what is used in the actual process of making of coffee. Coffee plants are grown are grown on a large scale in many parts of the world. The plant is cultivated in more than seventy countries including Indonesia and Brazil, who are two of the world’s biggest coffee producers. The plants are most often grown in areas lying between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Some other coffee plant growing areas include Africa, Central America, and India.

The plants are grown all over the world, but the cultivation is the same in each country, and can be a very complex process. There are two main species of coffee plants, which are known as the Arabica and the Robusta. They are small, evergreen trees, and the cultivation of coffee plants take place on plantations. The process of cultivating the plant can be labor intensive, but the amount of work needed usually depends on the method of farming used. This fact makes coffee cultivation more suitable for developing nations lying around the equatorial regions of the world. The equatorial climate is the best for the cultivation of coffee. Coffee plants usually require temperatures that range from 15-24 C without any severe fluctuations.

Coffee grows best on fields that are well drained and well aerated with deep soils, and the plants require a large apply of oxygen to provide to their root systems. They need for large amounts of oxygen is the reason why aerated soils are the best for the cultivation and growing of coffee. The plants also require 1500mm to 2000mm of rainfall annually to provide the best results. If the rainfall is below the ideal mark than the deficit then the plants must be provided with additional moisture through irrigation means. For a higher quality of coffee, it is best to cultivate the plants at higher altitudes with an abundance of mist and clouds. The higher altitudes provide lower oxygen content, so the coffee plants take longer to mature, which helps development better flavor within the coffee beans.

Coffee trees require constant special attention from the farmer. These plants require a specific amount of shaded sunlight, regular watering and fertilizing. They must also be protected from pests and weeds to ensure yield the best and the most coffee beans. Coffee flowers take approximately six to eight weeks to blossom, and the period the flower takes to blossom then harvest may last as long as nine months, depending on environmental and other factors. The red fruits of the coffee tree take six to eight months to ripen after the tree begins to bear fruit. Regular harvesting is required because coffee plant fruits may become over ripe after ten to fourteen days.

The fruits are often hand-picked in mountainous regions of the world, instead of using mechanical harvesters. Coffee beans are found in the fruits of the coffee plant, and are also hand-picked by manual laborers. The manual laborers must learn how to pick the best beans and discard bad beans, which requires the laborers to have much skill in that area. The hand-pickers must provide special attention to each bean, and must perform a thorough evaluation. After harvesting and picking the coffee beans must be processed, which is drying and roasting to make them ready for fresh grounding. The cultivation and growing process may be long and complicated, but it is a process that is the same throughout the world, it is needed to provide the best quality of coffee to consumers, and is necessary to give the best yield of coffee to growers.
